B Hylton Called Up to England U-19 Women’s National Team for Round One Qualifying for the 2025 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship

CHARLOTTE, NC (November 20, 2024) – England U-19 Women’s National Team today announced the roster that will compete in round one of the 2025 UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship Qualifying in Poland which includes Charlotte native and Carolina Ascent FC forward B Hylton.

England are competing for one of the remaining seven spots up for grabs at the European finals and will progress to round two of qualification providing they finish in the top three of the four-team qualification group.

The 17-year-old made her professional debut with Carolina Ascent during the club’s Inaugural Season Home Opener on August 17. She earned her first start on October 25 vs. Dallas Trinity FC at Cotton Bowl Stadium. 

Hylton was the first player to join Carolina Ascent on a USL Academy contract. USL Academy contracts allow Academy products at USL clubs to sign, train and compete in matches with professional senior teams without affecting their eligibility to play college soccer.

  • Dallas is on a two-match winning streak and is unbeaten in its last five. 
  • Dallas defeated Spokane 2-1 when the two sides met last month in Spokane. 
  • Dallas is undefeated at home this season. 
  • This will be the fourth match of Spokane’s six-match road trip to end the fall. It has gone 0-1-2 thus far. 
  • Dallas’ Enzi Broussard and Spokane’s Julianne Vallerand played together for West Virginia University’s women’s soccer team in 2019, and both were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.

DAL – Cyera Hintzen: The University of Texas alum has been a super sub for Dallas lately, providing a spark off the bench that has changed the outcomes of the last two matches. She recorded a goal and assist in the win against Lexington and her shot attempt led to the winning goal against Fort Lauderdale. 

SPK – Sophie Braun: Spokane looks stronger when the Argentinian midfielder is on the pitch and being a playmaker. She sent in five crosses, created one chance and recorded three tackles while keeping over 93% passing accuracy.

CAR – Rylee Baisden: The California native recorded her first goal of the season last week to bring Carolina level with Tampa Bay in its last match. She also recorded five duels won, three tackles and one chance created. 

DAL – Chioma Ubogagu: Dallas earned a hard-fought win against Lexington even with Ubogagu out of the match day roster. With her returning to the team, they will have that extra boost in their attack with the creativity and skill that the midfielder brings.

Super League Power Rankings – Week 14

Brooklyn, Tampa Bay sit atop standings after strong wins 

The top of the goalscorers list is getting crowded. Three different players recorded their fourth goal of the season across Week 14’s three matches, and they all contributed to earning results. 

The headlining act was Brooklyn’s Luana Grabias scoring the club’s first and the league’s quickest hat trick. The Brazilian striker found her stride at the end of the first half, and after zigzagging past DC’s entire backline, she slotted in three goals in 13 minutes, catapulting her from one to four goals to become the team’s leading scorer. 

Wednesday night’s other matchup saw Lexington’s Marykate McGuire score a late equalizer to earn a point at home against Spokane. McGuire came in as a substitute but immediately impacted the game and recorded the 100th goal in Super League history. 

The final goal of the week came from Tampa Bay Sun’s Carlee Giammona, which proved to be the game-winner and the goal that handed Carolina Ascent its first loss of the season. Giammona combined once again with Sydny Nasello, beat three defenders and nudged the ball past the goalkeeper to put the Sun on top. 

Fort Lauderdale’s Addie McCain (6) and Lexington’s Madi Parsons (5) remain at the top of the pack, but the Golden Boot race is wide open, and anyone can slide into first place before the end of the Fall Schedule.

5		 This six-match road trip for Spokane could be going worse, but it should be going better. Wednesday’s match was the second in a row where the Zephyr dropped points they should’ve earned and now have to face a red-hot Dallas Trinity.

6		 Fort Lauderdale secured a late draw in Week 13 that will hopefully kickstart some momentum as it closes out the fall on a five-match homestand. The big three of Addie McCain, Jasmine Hamid and Sh’Nia Gordon have been quiet recently, so it’s crucial for the team to get them more involved against DC this Saturday.
7 Lexington SC

Last Week:
8		 Lexington has so many offensive threats who have stepped up to the plate this season, most recently Marykate McGuire, earning a draw with an 86th minute goal last week. The team has three weeks to get the defense on that same page before facing Brooklyn.

Last Week:
7		 A complete defensive collapse within 15 minutes resulted in DC Power losing a fourth home match. Miscommunication along the backline combined with the inability to convert in front of goal is a recipe for disaster unless something changes for DC.

What we learned from Week 14 in the USL Super League

Week 14 saw Tampa Bay Sun hand Carolina Ascent its first loss of the season, and who else but Lexington scored the 100th goal in Super League history. 

Here are the biggest three takeaways from last week’s matches: 

Carolina hit a plateau and Tampa Bay is on the rise 

Sooner or later, someone was going to end Carolina Ascent’s undefeated run, but it’s actually not much of a surprise Tampa Bay Sun FC was the one to do it. The Ascent have looked a little out of sorts and barely scraped a couple points out of its last few matches, while the Sun have started to take form with their new roster additions. 

Going back to Ascent’s draw against Dallas on October 25, Carolina was one offside call away from losing 3-2, on top of the Trinity outshooting Carolina 19-4. The team was fortunate DC Power missed a penalty kick in its next match as Meagan McClelland single-handedly preserved the 1-0 win. Then against Spokane, the Zephyr hit the woodwork three times in a scoreless draw at American Legion Memorial Stadium. Carolina’s once-ironclad defense was destroyed on Saturday by Tampa Bay’s balls over the top. At the same time, the Ascent’s offense has fallen flat and struggled to create good looks on goal. 

Meanwhile, the Sun have bounced back from two losses at the end of October with three strong performances. Cecilie Nielsen and Natasha Flint were the perfect targets to put into a starting lineup that was failing to capitalize on its final third entries, especially combining with the speed and agility of Carlee Giammona and Sydny Nasello. Viv Bessette and Paige Almendariz were all over the pitch Saturday night, and Carolina couldn’t progress through the midfield because of them. The two teams are on complete opposite trajectories, which made for a perfect storm and thrilling upset. 

Lexington needs to find Amanda Allen more often 

Madi Parsons has likely been the top player on the scouting report for Lexington’s opponents recently, but last Wednesday’s match brought another name into the spotlight. Orlando Pride loanee Amanda Allen recorded eight shots – four of which were on target, three more of which were blocked – and two chances created against Spokane. Aside from the equalizer, nearly every opportunity Lexington had came through Allen. 

This is not to say that she is just now showing her abilities. Allen is second on the team in shots with 14 behind Parsons’ 19 while having played three fewer matches, and she is third in chances created. However, she had been playing more centrally, and her move out wide completely opened up the field for Lexington against Spokane. Allen has so much speed and skill that she can either cut inside and rip a shot, or she can beat her defender and send a cross into the box. Continuing to get her involved in the attack will result in even more goals for this high-scoring team. 

DC needs help at both ends of the field 

It’s no secret DC Power has struggled with efficiency at the offensive end; the club has the fewest goals in the league (6) while recording the third-most shots (132). Two of those goals came from penalty kicks in the same match. Another one was an own goal by the opposing team. Every time a DC player has a breakaway and is 1v1 with the goalkeeper and you think a goal is on the horizon, it’s not. Credit to Brooklyn’s Sydney Martinez for the five saves in Wednesday’s match, but one of those has to go in if DC wants to turn its season around. 

And things are not much better on the other end of the pitch. DC took a page out of Lexington’s book and allowed three goals within a span of 13 minutes last week. Again, Luana Grabias deserves all the recognition for three well-deserved and entertaining goals; however, the turnovers in the defensive third and the inability to clear lines followed by the immediate arguing and finger-pointing after conceding is not a good look for the backline. 

Stella Spitzer Called Up to U.S. Soccer U-15 Women’s Youth National Team Training Camp

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 13, 2024) – U.S. Soccer announced the roster for the upcoming U-15 Women’s Youth National Team Training Camp in Chula Vista, C.A. which includes Carolina Ascent FC forward Stella Spitzer. Spitzer made her professional debut with Carolina Ascent in Charlotte, N.C. at American Legion Memorial Stadium on October 19, 2024 and became the youngest player to debut in the USL Super League at 14 years old. 

Spitzer continues to catch the eyes of U.S. Soccer. Earlier this year, she received invitations to the U.S. U-14 Identification Camp and the U.S. U-14 Youth National Team training camp in 2024. Spitzer was also named to the 2024 Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Team.

BKN – Luana Grabias: Whether the Brazilian international is in the starting lineup or coming off the bench for Brooklyn, she brings incredible speed and skill to its frontline. She earned her first goal and had four shots in the team’s last win against Spokane.

LEX – Shea Moyer: Lexington’s captain has been holding down the midfield and is a facilitator on the field. Last week, she blasted home her second goal of the season from the penalty spot while recording four duels won, two tackles, two clearances and an interception. 

SPK – Emina Ekić: Now that the Bosnian midfielder is back from international duty, the team can return to using Ekić as its primary playmaker. In the draw against Carolina, she recorded two shots (one hitting off the crossbar), five tackles and created one chance.

Dallas moves to No. 1 after incredible comeback win 

Lexington SC was 10+ minutes away from not only earning its first home win, but its first shutout of the season last weekend as it held on to a 2-0 lead against Dallas Trinity FC. Considering the 6-2 loss it took to Dallas in September, it looked like a remarkable response for Lexington. 

For the second week in a row, it was Cyera Hintzen coming off the bench and changing the game for Dallas. In the Trinity’s last win against Fort Lauderdale, it was Hintzen’s shot that led to Sealey Strawn following up the rebound for the game-winner. On Saturday, she scored three minutes after coming on the field and assisted on the final goal of the match. She became just the seventh player to record a goal and an assist in the same match and the first to do so as a substitute. 

Fort Lauderdale also rescued a point by the hands of a second-half substitute. Anna Henderson entered the match in the 88th minute and scored the equalizer three minutes into stoppage time. She joined Felicia Knox and Reese Klein as the only FTL players to score goals after coming off the bench. 

Both Dallas and Fort Lauderdale have strong attacking units and versatile strikers in their starting lineups. To have equally as clinical players coming in as substitutes shows the depth of both teams and is proving to be the difference maker in matches.

4		 The attacking unit of Sydny Nasello, Cecilie Nielsen and Carlee Giammona has looked more and more cohesive over the last few weeks. Tampa Bay now needs to stay more defensively organized for all 90 minutes to get all the results it deserves.

6		 Hitting the woodwork three times against Carolina is the epitome of Spokane’s season thus far. The group continues to create opportunities even against the toughest defenses, but the composure in the final third is the thing holding the Zephyr back from earning all three points.

Last Week:
8		 Fort Lauderdale deserves the credit for playing all the way till the end, but there is a definite disconnect between the players during the build-up that the team used to have at the start of the season. Addie McCain needs some support up top, and someone needs to get on the end of the great balls that Cameron Brooks sends forward.

Week 13: vs BKN		 2
Last Week:
5		 If DC learned anything from its last match against Carolina and it’s first matchup against Brooklyn, it’s that the group can still go toe-to-toe with the top teams in the league. After the week off, DC needs to come out immediately with energy and composure if it wants to earn another win against Brooklyn.

Last Week:
7		 Just when Lexington looks like it might be turning a corner defensively, it has a complete breakdown and concedes three goals in the final moments of the match. It’s especially tough considering Sarah Cox recorded seven huge saves in what should have been the team’s first shutout.
