Trio of players from DC Power FC, Spokane Zephyr FC among selections for national team duty
TAMPA, Fla. – Eight players from four USL Super League clubs will represent their respective countries during the upcoming FIFA international window between Oct. 21-30. Three players from both DC Power FC and Spokane Zephyr FC were called up, and Brooklyn FC and Dallas Trinity FC are each sending one player on international duty.
Spokane’s Sophia Braun will represent Argentina when it takes on the reigning Olympic champion U.S. Women’s National Team on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Lynn Family Stadium, home of the USL Championship’s Louisville City FC. Braun has 29 caps with the Argentina National Team and scored the country’s first goal in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“It’s always an honor to represent Argentina and to wear the jersey,” said Braun. “It will be really special for me to play against the U.S. I know hearing both of the national anthems before the game will be emotional for me, as it represents my blended nationalities.”
Two Super League players are set to face off against each other. Spokane’s Riley Tanner will represent Panama as it plays Dallas’ Gaby Guillén and Costa Rica in two friendlies on Oct. 27 and Oct. 30. Tanner has collected 14 international caps for Panama including appearing in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup. Guillén has made 87 appearances for the Costa Rican Women’s National Team since 2012 and was a member of the team that made its first senior appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015.
DC Power FC’s Charlie Estcourt and Spokane Zephyr FC’s Emina Ekić will be aiming to guide Wales and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Both countries have advanced to the knockout stage of qualifying, with Estcourt and Wales set to face Slovakia in a two-leg playoff on October 25 and 29. Ekić and Bosnia and Herzegovina will square off with Serbia on the same dates, with the winning nations advancing to the final stage of qualifying before next summer’s tournament in Switzerland.
An additional four Super League players are currently representing the U.S. and Tampa Bay Sun’s Ella Martinez joined Colombia at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, and another four are set to join the U.S. U-19 Women’s Youth National Team this week for a training camp in West Palm Beach, Fla.
