NEWS & NOTES
FTL UTD WINS THIRD IN A ROW
During the team’s home opener, Fort Lauderdale United tallied its third consecutive win with a 1-0 victory over a tough Brooklyn FC side. Reese Klein drilled a long ball from the top of the box for the game winner in the 82nd minute.
TAMPA BAY SUN HEATING UP
Tampa Bay Sun FC recorded its second win of the season in a 3-0 victory over DC Power FC on the road in Week 8. Cecilie Fløe Nielsen etched her name into the history books as the first Tampa player to record a brace in the win.
CAROLINA SCORING WOES
While Carolina remains at the top of the table, the team’s last two matches have not been their best. The Ascent failed to get on the board against Tampa in Week 7 and then managed to steal a point at Lexington only after an opponent’s own goal.
FIRST CLEAN SHEETS
Tampa Bay’s Lauren Kozal (3 saves) and FTL UTD’s Cosette Morche (4 saves) both recorded their first clean sheets of the season, helping lead their respective team to victory in Week 8.
LOOKING TO REBOUND
Both host teams this week are coming off of a shutout defeat – Brooklyn a 1-0 loss at FTL and Spokane a 2-0 loss against Dallas – so both teams will be looking to get back into the win column in front of their home fans this weekend.
PEREZ ON POINT
Lexington’s Madison Perez recorded her league-leading fourth assist on Sunday on the equalizing goal in stoppage time. All four of Perez’s assists have come from corners and free kicks.
GO BLUE
Lexington’s Sydney Shepherd and Spokane’s Izzy Nino will face off against each other after playing four years together from 2018-2021 on the University of Michigan women’s soccer team. Both players were named to the Academic All-Big Ten team in 2021.
